‘Our confidence is placed in God who does not need our help for accomplishing His designs. Our single endeavour should be to give ourselves to the work and to be faithful to Him, and not to spoil our work by our shortcomings’. (St. Isaac Jogues)
Young guy, disturbingly distressed, screaming obscenities at me as I walk along the windy road to my friend’s home. Erratically cycling his rickety bike drawing closer all the time. Scared, I take my phone from my pocket with the intention of calling my friend. At that, my cyclist gets ultra mad. ‘You are recording me’, he screams. ‘I am not’, I reply, surprisingly calm, standing my ground. He believes me thank God and cycling off, threatens some more.Just then, along comes a jogger guy. ‘Please talk to me’, I ask him and being a kindly guy, grinds his mighty gallop to an abrupt halt, coming to my aid. Yes, he did hear some shouting but paid little attention to it. Thank God he knew my friend and so he offered to walk me home.
Of course I offered him my prayer. ‘I gave all that up and perhaps I shouldn’t have’. he told me. I simply said as I oftentimes do, that life is hard with prayer but oh so much harder without prayer.
I did my best to get help for poor young guy. (Indirectly, through appropriate channels). I hope he is ok wherever he is. Too young to be so obliterated, too young too, to posses such a vile vocabulary.
Somebody somewhere knows why this is so. God help and love us all.
All of this took place some months ago in another county. Yesterday my friend and I talked. ‘My friend (jogger guy) is praying your prayer every morning’, she tells me.
Beauty from ashes!! God works all things for good. Utterly mind-blowing and amazing every time. Walking with Jesus, home to Father God, in the light of Holy Spirit truly truly is adventure extraordinaire.
‘When we know and believe without question or doubt, that in all that you do God is there to help out. You hold in your hand the golden key to peace and joy and serenity’. (Helen Steiner Rice)
