Belinda ๐Ÿฆ

‘If I can stop one heart from breaking, I shall not live in vain; If I can ease one life the aching, or cool one pain, or help one fainting robin unto his nest again, I shall not live in vain’. (Emily Dickinson)

‘And still they gazed and still the wonder grew, that one small head could carry all he knew’. (Oliver Goldsmith/Memories of the Village Schoolmaster)

As Mary and I chatted in my garden, I spied a little bird sitting on the path. Scarily motionless, definitely alive. It looked as if she had been just dropped there, we could find no other plausible explanation. Mary gingerly picked her up and just then we noticed next door’s cat relaxing only a few feet away. So wonderful that we got to Belinda (our name for her) before cat did. We put her in a box with some bird feed. Perhaps she was dazed poor thing.

Mary took her home and after some time Belinda began to come back to life. She took to flying about the place. Mary took her outside and placed her on the cherry tree. This morning no trace of Belinda, gone on her merry way to take her place in the dawn chorus praising and thanking God for another brand-new day. No forwarding address๐Ÿ˜ƒ Everyone loves a happy ending.

‘Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s will. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows’. (Matthew10:29-31)
